Citation & Writing: Citation Managers

ENDNOTE - When using PubMed, you can create a file to send to Endnote either from one citation or by adding multiple citations to your "clipboard."

• Choose Send To from the upper right (above the abstract or citation list).
• Select Citation Manager.
• Choose the number of citations (max is 200).
• Click Create File.  
• This will create a .nbib file.
• Open Endnote. Go to File - Import - File.
• Choose the file.
• Choose Pubmed (NLM) under Other Filters.
• Click Import.

MENDELEY - For Mendeley, you need to install the Web Importer.

Individual citations may also be added manually by using the PMID (under the citation or abstract in PubMed).

ENDNOTE - To save citations from ICL into Endnote, select the citations and then click on "Hold Citations."  

• After you compile your list, click on Held Citations.
• Click the top checkbox to select all of the citations.
• Choose Tagged.
• Scroll to the bottom and click on Download.
• Open Endnote. Go to File - Import - File.
• Choose the File.
• Select Tab Delimited under "Import Options."
• Click Import.

ENDNOTE - In any EBSCOhost database, click on the folder icon next to the citation to save it to your folder.

• Click on Folder at the top of EBSCOhost.
• Select everything in the folder.
• Click on Export from the right side menu.
• Choose Direct Export in RIS Format.
• Click Save.
• Open the .ris file in Endnote and it will automatically import.
